About Tohoku University Japanese Program
This summer intensive program provides students of our partner institutions with an opportunity to discover Japan through diverse learning experiences in English. The program offers intensive Japanese language classes for both beginner and pre-intermediate learners, topical seminars about Japanese culture and society, various cultural workshops, and field trips including a homestay experience.

1st Term: 3 July to 18 July 2017
2nd Term: 24 July to 8 August 2017
- Applying for two consecutive terms is not allowed.
- You are expected to arrive on the day before the start of the program for student dormitory check-in. Please refer to the host institution’s acceptance package for the arrival information.
- You should only depart after completion of the program.
This is a fee-paying program and HKUST students will bear the program fee, accommodation fee and the costs for travel, visa, insurance, personal expenses and other administrative fees.

You are eligible to apply for the program if you:
- will have completed Year 1 by the start of program;
- have a cumulative CGA of 2.0 or above (Students with CGA below 2.0 may also apply. Offers may be given with special consideration.); and
- a beginner or pre-intermediate learners of Japanese language.

HKUST students must apply through the Global Student Programs Office. Tohoku University only accepts applications from students nominated by HKUST.

Step 2: The Host Institution Application (TO BE COMPLETED AFTER YOU ARE NOMINATED BY HKUST)
If you are nominated, you will be notified to submit a formal host institution application. Detailed information and application instructions will be available in due course.

The university-contracted off-campus accommodations (hotel) will be a 20-min. walk from Kawauchi Campus, where most classes and activities will be held during the program. Each student will be assigned a furnished bedroom with a unit bathroom.
